creating new songs

Hoi, Fans of Chicago Rock Gods: GENE YAAS, July, 10, 2008

Much love and joy to everyone!!!

The band is working semi-diligently, attempting to create some new sounds for your listening pleasure.(-OR - your straight-up OUTRAGE!!!)
Our songs are meant to be funny -(musically and lyrically, especially) - and slightly provocative.

As I expressed to some of the other guys in the band - (in the days following our first gig) :This is an exciting time to be in G.Y. - and I think everyone who came to our show was entertained.
So . . . Well done! on us.

Momentum seemed to wane - over the past three weeks though.
Finally, we did get together this week. AND - we are getting together again next week.

Writing new material is almost always a challenge.
-And we write as a group.
Now, with Stijn on board, more ideas are being presented and made available.
Of course, they will be scrutinized by the rest of the band.
AND - they also must meet certain criteria -(Gene Maarteen's smut test)-to be incorporated into the G.Y. repertoire.

First, a theme must be conceived.
-Any wild and crazy theme will be explored.(preferably - a sexual scenario / or fantasy: real or imagined.)
Songs about unusual characters are a favorite. (Gender unknown /uncertain)
Second, it should be sophomoric / moronic / funny / silly.

We had discussed writing "a concept album", weaving the androgynous/trans-sexual character of GERI througout each song.
Other concepts are still being considered.
"Sci-Fi Jesus" is an old concept album -Gene might do as a solo project - down the road.

We have some strong musical and lyrical ideas brewing - which we hope will delight.
Some new songs will debut at the next show on August 14 - at ELBO ROOM, Chicago, IL.
