Chicago Rock Gods

Hoi Again:

So . . . I was just thinking of other popular songs about gender confusion / gender uncertain encounters.

"Geri" - continues in the great tradition of songs like:

1.) LOLA: by The Kinks. "I know what I am and I bet I'm a man - but so is Lola"
"Girls will be boys and boys will be girls - It's a mixed up muddled up shook up world."
"Well, I'm not dumb but I can't understand why she walks like a woman and talk like a man,Oh my Lola"

2.) ANDROGYNOUS: by The Replacements/Paul Westerberg - later covered by The Crash Test Dummies.
"Here comes Dick - he's wearin' a skirt: Here comes Jane ya know she's sporting a chain,
Same hair a revolution - Same build evolution.
Tomorrow who's gonna fuss?
-And they love each other so - Androgynous."
"Something meets boy; something meets girl - They both look the same; they're overjoyed in this world

Same hair a revolution

Unisex evolution

Tomorrow who's gonna fuss?"

3.) DUDE LOOKS LIKE A LADY: Aerosmith - ? "Ooooo He was a lady!!!"

I don't quite know what the hell this song is saying.

I think Geri is pretty subtle in comparison to these literal portraits.
AND - much more sentimental, really.
It's a love song.
(Well, it started off as a love song.... before Gene changed the words!)

There are probably others I have forgotten.

The thing is, I only aspire to crack myself up. Some people think I am repressed, not true. I just like to laugh at silly shit of my own making. There is nothing deep about me.

Smut Test, Shim. I guess you are on the right track for what you guys in Gene Yaas want to do.

Also for consideration... maybe something like...

"Androgyny", "Cherry Lips" or "Queer" by Garbage

or maybe some of the lyrics of "All the Young Dudes" - Mott the Hoople

These are more serious, but I think you are going for the story of a misunderstood character.

Also could be something like "Arnold Layne" by Pink Floyd.

good luck with your writing.
